Kayla Zirpel-Proctor D.C.
Dr. Kayla Zirpel-Proctor was in a "minor" car accident when she was a junior in high school. As she soon discovered, there are no "minor" accidents and soon she was suffering from headaches as a result of her injuries. She visited her hometown chiropractor and after several visits her headache pain was relieved. It became obvious to her that chiropractic was beneficial in healing after an injury.
At the same time her mother could only walk a few blocks before low back pain set in. Within a few years she became unable to walk those two blocks at all, let alone stand, without her severely degenerated back robbing her of her quality of life. At that moment Kayla understood the importance of lifetime spinal maintenance. Chiropractic was not just for injury management - it was for maintenance of the spine, much like brushing and flossing for oral health. It can prevent many chronic and recurring conditions people suffer from daily, all without drugs and surgery. This revelation influenced her choice of career.
Dr. Zirpel-Proctor graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2007. She practiced for years in Lakeville, MN before starting her second chiropractic location in St Paul, MN. She officially merged office locations to the St Paul area in 2014 and has been helping West 7th community members and their families reach optimal health levels ever since.
Dr. Zirpel-Proctor strives to create an energizing, healing environment and incorporates detailed postural and radiologic analysis into the practice. Since that time, the practice has catered to all individuals seeking optimal health and wellness although families and children are a main focus. Dr. Zirpel-Proctor recently became a Nutrition Response Testing® Practitioner. Dr. Kayla Zirpel-Proctor has become one of the leading health and wellness advocates and educators in St Paul, MN. Her belief that the strength of a community depends on the health of its residents spurs her contribution of countless hours to the education and promotion of health and wellness.
Dr. Kayla's Nutrition Response Testing® Story
In case you were wondering about all the times I've gone to Florida these past few years this is what I went for! I recently received my Nutrition Response Testing® Professional Level Training Certificate! I'm ready to rock and roll in the West 7th neighborhood of St. Paul and help community members resolve chronic and/or challenging health issues or even help PREVENT them if they choose!
My health has been interesting the last several years. At age 30, I developed seizures - loss of consciousness events where I have no idea where or what I might wake up to. My anxiety, that I had already experienced for years, only magnified as now I had to worry about not having a seizure when walking down stairs, being outside in below freezing temperatures, crossing a busy street, swimming, etc.
The seizures changed my life. I went from being able to drive 30 minutes each way to having to spend 1.5 hours busing and getting picked up to and from my previous workplace in Lakeville MN. I also had to depend on friends and family for rides if I couldn't take Uber/Lyft or public transit (much appreciation to all friends and family who helped/helps out!).
In the middle of learning to navigate my new life not only did my mother pass away but my husband did as well after undergoing colon cancer treatment. The amount of emotional stress in my life during these years exacerbated my health issues even further.
It really bothered me that even though I got adjusted regularly and ate pretty healthy (80/20 rule - I gave myself occasional allowances to eat the not so good stuff), and did Crossfit....I still developed seizures. There was nothing more ironic than me, a chiropractor (who works with nerve systems daily) developing a neurological disorder.
I tried NUMEROUS chiropractic techniques, modalities, and supplement programs. I also did acupuncture, CranioSacral Therapy, and other bodywork techniques and I was still averaging a seizure about once every 2-4 weeks.
Finally, I went to a Nutrition Response Testing® Advanced Clinically Trained Practitioner for myself. I was already pretty intrigued by this technique and how it zoned in on the specific stressors of each patient and determined the right supplements to help their bodies heal from those stressors.
This is where I actually developed some HOPE for my health. I will admit I was pretty frustrated with my body when I started my program but when I implemented the specific nutritional and lifestyle changes for myself (which included even cutting out some foods that are actually healthy but my "delicate flower" body would freak out if I ate them) and the whole food supplements....my body started to heal.
I basically had to go grain-free and avoid even possibilities of wheat contamination. Wheat was actually causing my chronic anxiety and I can now tell if I've had an exposure because my "usual" state of anxiety will flare up. I also couldn't tolerate even one glass of St. Paul city water a week because I would get significant fatigue, neck aches, and headaches due to my reactions to the trace chemicals or whatever else is in tap water. Even small amounts of cigarette smoke, fragrances and bus exhaust would also severely effect me.
Things are better nowadays, definitely not perfect but I'm no longer living in the near constant state of anxiety, dizziness, bodily twitching and tingling sensations, extreme sleep disturbances, digestive issues, severe headaches, and food and environmental reactivity like I was. Seizure frequencies appear to be reducing but it's too early to tell. That was something that took years to develop and will take a long time (maybe years) to heal.
My health is a journey; it's not finished and will continue for the rest of my life.
My experience with Nutrition Response Testing® has caused me to become a Nutrition Response Testing® practitioner and help others who may be in a similar boat as I was. I enjoy getting to the root cause of my St Paul practice members' health issues and helping them get to higher levels of bodily function, health and well-being.
Health is a state of physical, nutritional/chemical, and emotional well-being. I found that once we incorporated Nutrition Response Testing® into my patients' care at Back to Wellness Chiropractic that their spines and health conditions stabilized and improved at a much quicker pace. We were now addressing ALL root causes of their lessened health states that were holding them back.
So if you are looking to get your health to the best optimal level possible and/or looking to resolve chronic and/or even mysterious and baffling health issues consult with me to see if you are a Nutrition Response Testing® case!
Yours in Health,
Dr. Kayla Zirpel-Proctor
Nutrition Response® Practitioner
In the spring of 2016 at the age of 34 Richard found himself in a failing marriage and a stressful dead-end career. The stress of these realities, compounded his undiagnosed depression and anxiety, leading to a Mental Health Crisis. Richard began meeting with a therapist and was prescribed several different medications each with their own side effects and complications.
Richard finalized his divorce and was laid off from his job. The therapy and medications were helping but he had reached a plateau. The side effects of the medication left him tired and hungry, gaining 40 pounds and he still struggled with depression and anxiety.
In July of 2020, Richard met Dr. Kayla Zirpel-Proctor. Dr. Zirpel-Proctor introduced him to Nutrition Response Testing® and the success she had experienced herself from a program. Shortly after that Richard began his own program. He found he had improved sleep, better energy, and lost 25 pounds within two months of doing Nutrition Response Testing®. Though a skeptic to begin with Richard found himself excited and intrigued with this alternative health program.
In the fall of 2020, with this new excitement and intrigue, he chose to begin his journey to become a Nutrition Response Testing® Practitioner. On March 6th Richard will complete his professional Level training in Nutrition Response Testing® and will begin treating patients on March 22nd 2021 as a Practitioner at Back to Wellness Chiropractic.
Dr. Kayla Zirpel-Proctor: Richard brings his perspective of balance to bear, in his approach to Nutrition Response Testing®. His perspective on balance coupled with his experience with mental health provides him with unique viewpoint on Traditional and Alternative Medicine and Treatments. I am excited to make his energy, knowledge, and experience a part of my practice and the patient's wellness journey.
